If you’ve been developing websites for clients for any length of time, then you’ve come to terms with the fact that your clients are going to have lots of issues trying to use the sites.  The site could be built perfectly and working fine, but….they just don’t get it.  They don’t exactly understand how their computer works - let alone the web - and you have to do a little bit of hand holding.

As developers this is probly our least favorite part of the job, because it is very cumbersome to try and walk a client through certain things over the phone, especially when they may not have the greatest intuitive understanding of the web, or again, computers in general!  Well that’s where some remote desktop support tools can really come in handy!

I have used a handful of these over the years and I’ve noticed them getting progressively easier and easier to use, not only for myself as the developer -but more importantly for the client who has to install some desktop software to get the thing to work in the first place.  This is great news!  Today, I tried a new one called logmein.com - it was extremely easy to install and what I liked most - the remote controller which is you, didn’t even have to install software - they had a web-based control panel, which I think was using a java plugin.

The client had a quick software download to install, which was really very painless.  I would highly recommend something like this for those of you who are having some hard time communicating with your clients, or even end users of the website, if you are doing that kind of support.
